Tonight on So You Think You Can Dance, the top 18 dancers performed. Judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy were joined by contemporary choreographer Mia Michaels.
Lauren & Neil — Hip Hop
Song: Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson & D.O.E., "The Way I Are"
Choreographer: Dave Scott
The performance was a major improvement over last week. Mary said, "I just loved it," and Nigel said, "You’ve set the bar tonight."
Jessi & Pasha — Jazz
Song: dZihan and Kamien, "Stiff Jazz"
Choreographer: Tyce DiOrio
The avian-inspired choreography was silly, but fun. Mia called the performance "quirky, ridiculous, and amazing."
Jamie & Hok — Samba
Song: Gabin, "Bang Bang to the Rock N’ Roll"
Choreographer: Jean-Marc Genereux
It was an enjoyable performance from two Samba newbies. Mia said, "You guys are tearin’ it up." But Mary said their technique "doesn’t cut the mustard in this competition."
Sabra & Dominic — Contemporary
Song: The Pretenders, "I’ll Stand By You"
Choreographer: Mandy Moore (not that Mandy Moore)
The choreographic vision for this routine was Sabra as a bird and Dominic as a "creature" — and it looked like it, I guess. Mia thought they were "beautiful."
Faina & Cedric — Fox Trot
Song: Elvis Presley & Ann-Margaret, "You’re the Boss"
Choreographer: Hunter Johnson
It was solid, but not great. Mia said, "It felt like Ginger Rogers and an insecure Michael Jackson."
Lacey & Kameron — Broadway
Song: "Overture/And All That Jazz" from Chicago
Choreographer: Tyce DiOrio
Lacey & Kameron are a couple to be reckoned with. Mary said, "Danger is your middle names." Nigel said, "You look like you’ve been dancing together for years."
Anya & Danny — Viennese Waltz
Song: Lifehouse, "You and Me"
Choreographer: Hunter Johnson
This is another couple that all of the others should be afraid of. Mia said, "You guys are stunning together." Mary said, "You guys just stepped out of a dream. You are my favorite couple." And Nigel added, "It’s the routine of the night, so far."
Shauna & Jimmy — Hip Hop
Song: Fat Man Scoop feat. Elephant Man & Jabba, "U Sexy Girl"
Choreographer: Dave Scott
Shauna & Jimmy are a couple of squares, so this step routine didn’t work for me. Nigel said, "That was so much fun."
Sara & Jesús– Paso Doble
Song: Queen, "We Will Rock You (Remix)"
Choreographer: Jean-Marc Genereux
They withstood what could’ve been an overpowering song. Mia said it was "awkward," mostly because of the music. But Mia and Mary were both impressed with Sara, since this was her first time dancing in heels.
My favorite dance of the night was Anya & Danny’s Viennese Waltz. My predictions for tomorrow’s Bottom Three are Faina & Cedric, Jamie & Hok, and Shauna & Jimmy — although Sabra & Dominic might be forgotten and slip to the bottom instead of Jamie & Hok.
